Food & Drink and other things

Topsham, awarded the ‘Best Local Foods Small Town’ in 2005/2006 is fast becoming one of Devon’s ‘Foodie’ destinations. With many excellent independent food shops, a bustling Saturday market and no shortage of outstanding pubs, restaurants, teashops and cafés.

We have an excellent butchers (Arthur’s), a greengrocer (Richards), a world class cheese shop (Country Cheeses) – opposite ChurchView, a deli run by next door restaurant Oliva, a small but well stocked Co-Op supermarket, a fish & chip shop, a mobile fishmonger (Derek, at Matthews Hall Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat mornings). A great selection of wines & spirits from Big Jim at Topsham Wines or try Pebblebed for local wines in Ferry Road, near Trouts Boatyard.

Our Post Office is in Fore Street and Topsham News in High Street has a wide range of newspapers and periodicals – and we have 2 each of pharmacies, banks and cash-points.

For Devon Ice creams and traditional sweets you must try "Auntie Julies's Sweetie Shop" in Fore Street.

You can probably pick-up some interesting bargains at Topsham Quay Antiques Centre - 70 independent Antique Dealers under one roof.

Just a few minutes away by car or about a 15-minute walk, Darts Farm Shopping Village is a veritable one-stop market. You can go there to buy quality local food and drink and there is a free parking

One of the best features of a stay in ChurchView is the chance simply to walk out the front door and stroll a few minutes either to shop for local food or go out for a drink or a bite to eat.

Something a little stronger?

Nearly all our pubs serve food.

The Bridge Inn on the River Clyst is one of the best beer pubs in the UK and, reputedly the only pub ever to have been visited by HM The Queen. We have the Lighter and Route 2 on the Quay, the Passage House Inn on the river, The Globe Hotel and Drakes in Fore Street, Denleys Wine Bar, The Nelson and The Exeter Inn in High Street – all offering good levels of service and choice.
